The Iowa WIC program is for women, infants, and children living in Iowa and facing nutritional risk. The program provides a wide range of nutritional benefits, supplies, and education to the qualified participants. The program covers children up to the age of five, pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women. The program requires all the applicants to be determined as nutritional risk by a qualified health professional in order to receive benefits. For the purpose of WIC program, a person is on a nutritional risk whether it is medical based or diet based.
Iowa WIC provides number of benefits to its participants. These include health services, nutritional support and education, help for buying nutritional food, support for breastfeeding, and immunization services.
The program also provides nutritional counseling through dietitians and nurses. During visits, dietitian will determine what foods are best for you. The program also promotes breastfeeding actively and provides numerous benefits to breastfeeding women.

The Iowa WIC participants receive fresh fruits and vegetables through Farmer's Market Nutrition Program. Checks are distributed each summer to qualified WIC participants.
In order to receive WIC program benefits, one has to meet program eligibility criteria. The following persons are eligible for WIC program:
- Infants and children up to five years of age
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding women
- Postpartum women
For all the people in these categories, they also have to be considered a nutritional risk as determined by a health professional.

Automatic Income Eligibility
For households where one or more members receive SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, or benefits from certain other programs are automatically income eligible for Iowa WIC program.
WIC Application Instructions

On your first visit to the office, you will need to make sure that you are carrying your proof of Iowa residence, proof of identity, and proof of income with you. The office will determine your eligibility after watching your documents.
