WAP Application Instructions


Currently there is no online only application for this program.

To apply for WAP in New Mexico, you will need to contact your local WAP agency. WAP has contracted with number of agencies to ensure that the program is easily accessible for everyone.

Eligibility Requirements


In order to receive assistance through New Mexico WAP, you will have to be eligible for the program. Here are eligibility requirements.

  • You must be a resident of New Mexico

  • You must be responsible for paying your home energy costs

  • Your household income should be below the income limit set in the program

Income eligibility

In order to receive assistance through New Mexico WAP, your household income should follow these guidelines.

Number of people in household Maximum annual income

  1. $22,340

  2. $30,260

  3. $38,180

  4. $46,100

  5. $54,020

  6. $61,940

  7. $69,860

  8. $77,780

If you have more people living in the household, then add $7,920 for each additional person.

Automatic Eligibility

Some households will automatically clear income eligibility. Households receiving any of the following benefits will receive automatic eligibility.

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
