Food Stamps

Food stamps are funded federally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In Indiana, the program is referred to as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The SNAP food assistance program helps supplement a family's income, allowing family members to purchase healthy and nutritious foods without feeling financially burdened. The Division of Family Resources (DFR) administers the benefits based on household income, monthly expenses and the number of people living in an applicant's household.


LIHEAP

The Indiana Low Income Heating and Energy program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that helps to subsidize the cost of energy for low income households in the state of Indiana. During winter season the Indiana LIHEAP pays for the heating bills of low income families and caters for any shut off bills to prevent utility companies from shutting off the heating systems of poor families. The program also provides limited funds earmarked for the purchase of fans during the hot summer season.


Medicaid

Indiana Medicaid program provides a comprehensive medical insurance for residents of state of Indiana. The Indiana Medicaid offers insurance cover through various child-programs, each covering specific needs of Indiana residents. Since each program caters to different resident categories, it has different eligibility criteria.


SSDI

In Indiana, eligible individuals can apply for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. The program assists Indiana residents who are unable to work because of a qualifying disability.


TANF

Indiana's TANF program offers support to families with children who require financial assistance. This program provides monthly cash aid to families facing low-income challenges. The aim is to help these families afford their daily necessities, with a focus on helping them move towards a more stable and financially secure future.


The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

Indiana's TEFAP offers food assistance to low-income individuals and families. The program works with a network of local food banks and distribution centers to provide nutritious food items. This support is important for many Hoosiers facing difficulties in obtaining food.


Unemployment

Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) manages Unemployment Insurance program. This program provides temporary financial assistance to unemployed workers who have lost their employment through no fault of their own. This temporary assistance is available to all individuals unemployed workers in Indiana if they meet certain eligibility criteria. The benefits are not retroactive and are only available from the time a UI claim is filed. The individuals receiving UI benefits may have to register for work with Indiana Career Connect.


Veterans Disability

Indiana provides Veterans Disability Benefits to veterans who were injured or developed a medical condition during their active military service. These benefits are designed to show our gratitude for their brave service. Along with disability benefits, Indiana veterans can access VA Life Insurance, Dependents and Survivor Benefits, VetSuccess on Campus programs, and much more.


WAP

Indiana residents who are struggling to pay increasing energy costs, there are several winterization programs that are available. These programs are usually administered by the state, corporations and charities. They provide funds to assist low-income residents with heating/cooling bills and repairs. If your household does not meet the income requirements for home heating bill assistance, you may still qualify for the Indiana Weatherization Assistance Program, or WAP. This program is funded by the Indiana Energy Assistance Program. WAP assists with home insulation, furnace or heater repair, and door and window sealing, which will help your household save on energy costs throughout the winter.


WIC

Indiana WIC is special supplemental program for low-income women, infants, and children living in Indiana and facing nutrition risk. Recipients receive number of benefits including vouchers for nutritious food and nutrition education.
