Idaho LIHEAP Application Information

Idaho Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial help to low-income households who cannot pay their utility bills or are in need of emergency assistance. The program makes one-time payment to utility provider on behalf of the eligible household. However, the funds are sent directly to the household in case of emergency assistance. The program considers a situation to be emergency if household is facing utility disconnection immediately or in near future. The program has been providing these benefits since 1982.

Many households in Idaho pay a major portion of their total income to cover their heating costs. Idaho LIHEAP is for such households so that heating can become more affordable for these households. If a household is facing threat of permanent disconnection from heating provider, then additional aid may be provided. Households with elderly, disabled, or young children will receive higher preference for heating assistance.

Households looking to receive financial help through LIHEAP in Idaho will have to meet program requirements. The program requires household income to be below 150% of the federal poverty level. In addition to that, households will also have to meet general LIHEAP eligibility as well. Idaho LIHEAP assistance is available for homeowners as well as renters.

When you visit your agency office to apply for LIHEAP, make sure that you are taking certain documents such as proof of your income, identity, and heating bills with you to expedite the process. If you don't take these necessary documents with you, you may find yourself back in queue when re-applying with all the documents.
